Windows Server Overview

Windows Server 2025 – a server OS based on Windows 11, version 24H2 on the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC). Improves security, performance, and integration with Azure and cloud technologies.

Features of Windows Server

• Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) improvements
  • Ability to use a 32k database page size, which improves performance and addresses some of the limitations of older architectures.
  • AD schema updates, including new database log files.
  • Ability to restore AD objects with missing key attributes.
  • Improved algorithms for finding the location of domain controllers (DCs).
• Azure Arc integration
  Simplify the process of adding servers to Azure Arc with an easy-to-use setup wizard.
• Bluetooth support
  Ability to connect to a variety of Bluetooth devices, including mice, keyboards, and audio devices.
• Desktop improvements
  The initial logon experience offers an experience consistent with the look and feel of Windows 11.
• Kerberos and security updates
  Support for stronger encryption and signing mechanisms, including SHA-256 and SHA-384.
  LDAP encryption is used by default for all client communications after authentication.
• SMB (Server Message Block) Management
  – New capabilities for managing SMB protocols, including auditing encryption and signing support.
• Improvements for Windows containers
  Container portability allows container images to be easily moved between hosts without requiring modification.
• Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS)
  New features for managing local administrator passwords, including image rollback detection and passphrase generation.
